In the Haitain culture men greet each other with firm handshakes and direct eye contact. The Haitain women greet each other with a light kiss on the cheek and if they are greeting a stranger it is a simple handshake. In the African-American culture, we greet each other with a handshake, a light kiss on the cheek, a hug, or a simple hello. We have many ways of greeting each other, so there is no mandatory way in our culture to greet each other. When holding conversations, men and women may touch each other lightly but kissing in public is deemed inappropriate in the Haitain community.
