This is often accompanied by an imbalance of electrodes such as sodium, chloride and potassium. œSodium imbalances are particularly important in patients who need intensive care because both hypo- and hypernatremia are associated with increased mortality in these patients regardless of age, gender and diagnoses. (Balcı et. al., 2013).
