The different brain structures have their specific function to understand the external stimulus and creates the necessary reactions to it. Bottom-up and top down processing refers to the direction in which the perception travels. In bottom-up processing the process of perception starts from the receptors organs below the brain, while top-down processing starts in the brain and finish with an action or reaction to the presented stimulus (Saylor Academy, 2012). A great situation that I can use as example is my first paranormal investigation. In this investigation I was at Maria's apartment. Maria is a Hispanic female around her 50s, that claimed more than one time that she saw a black wolf in the guest room in her apartment. The description of the wolf that she gave us was mostly a black mass with red eyes. With this description already in my head and with the adrenaline pumping in my body, I was already seeing this wolf in my head. After my helper and I turned off the lights and started to do infrared sweeps, we did not find anything. We decided to separate; once I found my self alone, in the corner of my eye I saw a black mass, at that moment I jumped in look to my right. I was able to just barely detect the stimuli producing the effect of absolute threshold of a sensation. At the moment my bottom-up processing started with the perception of the black mass by my visual organs, that went to my brain, and the image of the black wolf with the red eyes came from my long term memory usually stored in my frontal cortex (Saylor Academy, 2012).
