ENG/240 Reflection on Poetry ENG 240/ Introduction to Creative Writing Reflection on Poetry: Genealogy Betsy Sholl Betsy Sholl€™s poem €œGenealogy€ provides intricate imagery that paints a picture of not only her childhood, but of the relationship with her parents during this childhood. Sholl begins the writing with the line €œOne of my parents was a flame, the other a rope. One was a tire, the other a dial tone€. This use of imagery leads me to believe that one of the parents were sturdy like a rope or a tire, whereas the other, like a flame or a dial tone were fleeting or essentially temporary. Sholl laid out within the stanzas of her poetry, a tale of her childhood that sets the stage for what seems to be a potentially turmoil filled life for the young writer. This poem evokes a strong sense of emotion in the reader and leaves the audience wondering which parent was the cons. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . .
