Topic 6 DQ 1: Discuss the ideals and goals of the Abolition movement, including the key players and events. How did their Christian faith affect their views on the abolition of slavery? Did all Chri... stians promote abolition? Explain. The Abolition movement focused on setting the slaves free in the United States. The textbook says, “the Revolutionary War triggered the abolition of slavery in the North” (Schultz, 2014). It began in the North and slowly in the South. This movement wanted to make sure and end discrimination and segregation. The Second Great Awakening is what started the fire of the Abolition movement. More people became supporters for the emancipation of the slaves for religious reasons. Charles Finney is responsible for many revivals of Christianity. He pushed people to join the church and to turn from the worlds ways but not all Christians promoted the abolition movement. Some churches supported slavery and the South was very traditional in the South. References: Schultz, K. (2016). HIST 4 (4th ed.). Boston, MA: Wadsworth. An action that was also taken was the Brown v. Board of Education because Supreme Court ruled that “separate educational facilities for black and white people were inherently unequal” (Schultz, 2015).
