*NURSING > DISCUSSION POST > NR 506 Week 3 Graded Discussion Topic; Effective Coalition (All)
Effective Coalition Leadership Locate a state or national coalition advocating for your approved healthcare policy concern. Who are the coalition partners and is there an identified leader? Can you ... identify successes indicating strong leadership? What can you add to the content for your upcoming interview from the work of this coalition? A coalition is made up of a group of individuals that share a common interest or goal, and willing to work together to achieve a mutual goal. That goal should be as broad as trying to improve the overall quality of life for most people in the community. The American Society of Superintendents of Training Schools was one of the first nursing coalitions that were formed in the Unites States in 1893, now they are known as National League of Nurses (NLN). Internal and external coalition functioning is an essential predictor of coalition success, which has been linked to perceived coalition ability to support evidence-based programs, coalition effectiveness, coalition sustainability and coalition goal achievement. This coalition consists of healthcare organization, nursing educators, education agencies, and interested members of the public who share the common goal of building a diverse and strong nursing workforce for promoting excellence in nursing education. For an effective leadership team within a coalition, there are many key elements are necessary including a strong relationship between the group and its leaders, clear view of the goal, commitment, listening and understanding skills, organizational skills, strong interpersonal skills, and leadership credibility within the group. Effective and good communication is one of the most important skills to have in leadership roles (NLN, 2017). I have had made small PowerPoint presentation to discuss my action plan and priority Recommendations to selected board of members during our phone conversation. The Coalition’s mission is to reduce and prevent childhood obesity by promoting healthy lifestyles through school, family, and community. The Coalition’s vision is to all children in South Carolina have access to Nutrient-dense foods and community resources to support healthy weight. Lastly, the overall goal is to facilitate collaborations that maximize funding to reduce childhood obesity in South Carolina by increasing access to healthy foods at schools meals, vending programs, farm to school, school gardens and Replace revenue from vending machines with fundraisers.
