Dr. Larry Dossey distinguished three separate eras of medicine through these changes. The first two of these being Era I and Era II. Era I came about in the 1860s when œscience was incorporated into medical practice (Koerner, 2011). Known as the Mechanical model, Era I considered health, wellness, and consciousness to be entirely mechanical and body-based entities, based off of the physical brain and its functions. Era II took place in the 1950s when a mind-body relationship idea was developed.
