I have noticed tha... t incoming freshmen struggle with so many areas of Algebra. The math facts that stand out the most in recent years would be their multiplication facts, using (x, y) coordinates to graph, and adding and subtracting negative numbers. In 1st grade students are learning how to add and subtract to 10, by the end of 3rd grade they should be able to recall and use multiplication facts to 81, and by 4th grade, recall and use multiplication and corresponding division facts through the 12 s. If a student has not learned their math facts in 3rd grade, going forward, each grade they will fall further behind.
