When a healthcare organization is considering potential issues that could arise when pertaining to the Legal Health Record of a patient, they first must know the definition. According to the textbook â€˜Legal and Ethical Aspects of Healthcare Information Laws and Regulationsthe definition of Legal Health Records (LHR) is the business record that is generated by the healthcare provider that addresses the patients episode of care that was delivered by the provider. (McWay, 2010) Legal Health Records do not have specific regulations, however the LHR must meet the standards of the federal and state laws. Things to consider when establishing an LHR depends on the organization. They should consider the cost of storage, whether it be electronic or paper. Either source will require security also. The organization must consider how they will protect the LHR until it is needed in an evidentiary case.
