D169___Task_3.docx D169 Professional Collaboration Western Governors University Essential Practices for Supporting Diverse Learners, D169 A1.One communication strategy I could use to promote positive communication with the parent in this scenario is to implement the use of technology to better bridge the language gap. While professional translators are not always available at schools, language-translation apps such as Google Translate and Remind are easily accessible to teachers. I could use these apps to quickly translate messages from parents who do not speak English as a first language, and to translate my messages into the language the parent speaks. This would be particularly effective in written communication, such as exchanging emails with the parent. This strategy would address the communication issue based on this parents needs because it provides a quick and easy way to better understand what the other person is saying, while also demonstrating my commitment to maintaining positive communication with all parents. The strategy only requires a minimum of one individual to use the translation apps, so even if the parent does not have access to technology, I can use the apps to translate both languages. In addition, my effort to accommodate the parents needs will help me gain the trust and confidence of the parent. Building an effective relationship with this parent through positive communication is an important aspect to their childs success.
