Measles Description Measles is considered one of the highly contagious viral diseases globally, which affects mostly children. Infectious Diseases (2020) stated that the rubeola virus, which belongs to the paramyxovirus family, causes measles. Measles virus is an acute systemic viral infection associated with fever, rash, and respiratory symptoms. WHO (2020) stated that the virus is known to affect the respiratory tract and spread throughout the human body. Also, measles is a human disease and is not associated with animals (WHO, 2020). Measles Outbreak and the Countries Involved CDC (2020) showed updated measles cases and outbreaks in 2020. As of August 19, 2020, 12 measles cases in 7 jurisdictions pertaining to any of the 50 states, including New York and the District of Columbia, were verified. In the year 2019, dated from January 1st to December 31st, 1,282 individuals with measles cases were confirmed in 31 states.
