D072 outline notes.docx D072 UNIT 2 MODULE 1: Ethics: Principles that serve as a guide about how to behave toward each other. ï‚· Reflects beliefs about what is right, wrong, just, unjust,... good, bad in terms of human behavior Legal: an act that is allowed or in conformity with the law of the land. ï‚·An act that is defined as illegal is in defiance of the stated or established laws or a defined jurisdiction. legal-ethical: When the law and personal or organizational (professional) ethics are in accordance with each other. Example: CEO decides to move the operations overseas to a country with low wages and plans on paying a bit more than the prevailing wages in that location. While the CEO is moving the operations overseas, they are taking care of the workers needs. Legal-unethical: Dilemma in which established laws are not in accordance or do not uphold the ethical choice. Example: Having a clothing factory located overseas due to the reduced cost of production but they have dangerous working conditions. No, it is not illegal but ignoring dangerous work conditions is unethical in any sense Illegal-ethical: Dilemma in which the ethical choice would be in violation of established laws. Example: A judge believing the use of marijuana is beneficiary, but the use of it is illegal in the jurisdiction the judge works.
