Dealing with conflict in the workplace can be difficult and often hard to navigate. During the simulation Raymond seemed angered with the pharmacy, laying blame stating they were dumping their responsibility of medication reconciliation on the nursing staff in the Emergency Department (ED). With the use of Interpersonal Communication, I actively listening while hearing Raymonds frustrations with what he assumed was the issue with pharmacy. Jenna voiced her concerns and frustrations with the ED nursing staff name-calling and gossiping about the pharmacy dumping their work in the nurse's laps. The power skill used to address Jennas concerns was Social Awareness. I empathized with Jenna and showed compassion to her concerns of incivility from the ED nursing staff. Possessing the skill of Interpersonal Communications allows for civil conversations within a group or team to arrive at a mutually agreed upon goal and plan. I offered conflict resolution by encouraging Raymond and Jenna to problem solve by using critical thinking and creativity in developing a plan, perhaps meeting in the middle, to address the completion of medication reconciliation in the ED.
