It is for those who are age 65 or older, those who are under the age of 65 and have qualifying disabilities, and people of all ages with End-Stage renal disease. Medicare coverage is offered under two parts. Medicare part A is hospital insurance that covers inpatient care, skilled nursing facilities, hospice care, and home health. It is financed through payroll taxes. Medicare part B is medical insurance that covers physician services, outpatient care, medical supplies, and preventive services. It is financed through monthly premiums paid by eligible beneficiaries to supplement federal funding. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is an agency within the US Department of Health and Human Services that is responsible for administration of several federal healthcare programs including Medicare. As a government payor, CMS creates the conditions under which physicians and hospitals can participate in Medicare and file claims for reimbursement.
