TASK 1 QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS REPORT..docx C815 TASK 1 QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS REPORT C815 Quality and Performance Management and Methods Western Governors University A1. Three quality improvement initiatives at Fielder Medical Center are Central Line- Associated Blood Stream Infections (CLABSI), Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI), and a prevention program for readmissions. Why the initiatives are necessary to the center are as follows: First, Central Line-Associated Blood Stream Infections (CLABSI) are central line catheters inserted via the chest, neck, or groin to provide fluids, give medications, or collect blood. The catheters can remain intact for weeks or months at a time. The prolonged period that the catheter can stay in the human body can cause infections, such as bloodstream infections. A bloodstream infection occurs when bacteria travels through the central line. To decrease the rate of infections, Fielder Medical Center established a team to research ways to reduce these infections in the most cost-effective manner and created the program called "stop the line." Staff was trained on how to insert a central line catheter properly/how to continue upkeep while the line is in place. After 18 months, it was remarkable that infections dropped almost 50%, bringing their rates below the national average. Second, Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI) is a urinary tract infection (UTI) caused by a urinary catheter where bacteria/viruses travel through the catheter and. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . .
