Task 1 Scholarly Paper revision1.docx C971 C971 Advanced Information Management Task 1 Western Governors University (A1) Advantages and Disadvantage of Health Information Systems A health information system (HIS), for the purposes of this paper, is a computer based information system that is built and used by people to collect, generate, and disseminate useful data through combinations of hardware, software, and telecommunication networks [ CITATION Mas16 \l 1033 ]. There are several advantages to implementing a HIS including the prevention or reduction of diagnostic errors, treatment errors, and preventive errors through various tools including clinical decision support and computerized physician order entry. Areas that need to be addressed by a HIS include usability, interoperability, scalability, and compatibility. Usability can be defined as how easily users can use a product to achieve specific goals effectively, efficiently, and satisfactorily within a specific context of use [ CITATION Nat17 \l 1033 ]. Usability can be thought of as intersection of ergonomics and the human-computer interface. When designed properly, usability promotes the acceptance and use of technology to improve workflow which increases productivity and decrease errors. A disadvantage HIS is some health care workers feel more comfortable with paper and are resistant to change. Additionally, distractions, a lack of knowledge, and fatigue can lead health care workers to deviate from accepted work practices and create workarounds . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . .
