Today I will be walking you through a Coding Compliance Training Program. Let us begin. Slide Two: There are five key points to support the purpose of a coding compliance training program. First, it guarantees staff are aware of standards/procedures and understanding of the expectations needed for payment/reimbursement purposes. Second, it supports prevention of fraud and abuse while minimizing the risk of fines, penalties, or criminal charges. Third, it aids organizations in the understanding of state/federal penalties for intentional or unintentional fraud and abuse. Fourth, Aids in developing an understanding of CMS/OIG investigation of claims. And last, it provides guidance around new/changing legislations, like the False Claims Act and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Slide Three: How is a coding compliance program evaluated? It is assessed using a survey/controlled experiment. The opinions obtained after training are valuable in determining the effectiveness of the program for trainees/managers.
