It is a systematic process of working with the client as a partner in order to assess health needs, develop and implement interventions, evaluate progress, and use the results to influence and direct the delivery of care to promote health and prevent disease (Stanhope and Lancaster, 2001, p. 8). With that being said, public health nurses in todays society can use their expertise to prioritize educating vulnerable populations, such as those who suffer from behavioral and/or mental health issues. This population is sometimes overlooked and misunderstood. In collaboration with public health nursing, individualized interventions and education tools can be established for those who are suffering from behavioral and/or mental health issues. Advocacy and Case Management Case management is a systematic process of assessment, planning, service coordination, referral, monitoring, and evaluation that meets the multiple service needs of clients (Stanhope and Lancaster, 2001, p. 235). Advocacy and case management go hand-in-hand. Tahan (2016) states that “advocacy provides a powerful context for the many tasks, roles, functions, and responsibilities of case managers†(p. 165).
