Abstract Every crime committed comes with a consequence or penalty when caught. Of course, not all crimes are the same and will not have the same form of punishment. There are many rules and regulations within the law that plays a role in how a crime is punished. This includes the goal of the punishment; how much punishment should be inflicted and what behavior qualifies for that punishment (Bank, 2020). Its very important to understand the details and nature of the crime to determine what goal the punishment will serve for that crime and if it justifies the crime based on the theories of punishment and whether it will serve as a form of deterrence to prevent or reduce future crime or encourage offenders from reoffending (Banks, 2020). It is argued by many critics such as Philip Bean, that criminology failed to acknowledge the moral and sociological ramifications of punishment that are prominent of the “social and personal characteristics of offendersâ€, including the methods used for social control (Banks, 2020).With that being said, Nigel Walker added to that argument , that there are a few concerns that pay little to no attention to the philosophy of punishment.
