topic_selection.docx Week 1 Course Project: Topic Selection Chamberlain University College of Nursing PHIL347N Topic Selection Topic: Gun Control Specific Issue: Why should gun laws be stricte... r? PROS: Three Aspects of the Issue: 1). It would decrease the number of gun deaths and crime in general. “There were 572,537 total gun deaths between 1999 and 2016â€(ProCon, 2016). This goes along with police and using it for wrong situations. 2). Legally owned guns are frequently stolen. Even if a parent or guardian owned a gun legally, it is possible for their child or anyone to potentially steal that and use it without a license of their own. “Guns stolen from gun stores and the private collections of individual gun owners pose a substantial risk to public safety†(Parsons & Vargas, 2017). 3). Less Mass shootings. Guns should be less accessible for the mental ill. Every year there is at least one mass shooting resulting in the death of numerous people. CONS: 1). Gun control laws, especially those that try to ban “assault weapons,†infringe upon the right to own guns for hunting and sport. 2). Gun control laws will not prevent criminals from obtaining guns or breaking laws. 3). Gun control laws such as background checks and micro-stamping are an invasion of privacy. References ProCon.
