Capstone_Topic_Summary.docx Capstone Topic Summary Grand Canyon University NRS-493: Professional Capstone and Practicum Capstone Topic Summary Transitions of care require a safe and effective hand off. The current hand off process at HCA Houston Healthcare Mainland when a patient transitions from the emergency department to an inpatient unit consists of an electronic form being sent to the inpatient unit. This has caused a decrease in satisfaction from the nurses as well as patient safety concerns. The capstone intervention chosen is the standardization of a bedside hand off between the primary nurses at the patients bedside in the emergency department. This falls under the category of leadership. Nursing leadership should focus the profession of nursing on the thing that matters the most; the patient (Stanley, 2020). Bedside hand off is the safest way to hand over the care of the patient from one provider to the other. This also increases patient satisfaction. Nursing leaders are tasked with ensuring that patients receive the safest, highest quality care. They also are held accountable to both patient and employee satisfaction. Implementing a new process that will increase patient safety and satisfaction is a project for leadership. References Stanley, D. (2020). Response to: Perspectives : Leadership: What is it good for?
