Topic_7_Solution_Focused_Therapy.docx CNL: 500 Cast Study Analysis: Solution-Focused Approach Department of Clinical Mental Health Sciences, Grand Canyon University CNL: 500 Theories and Models of Counseling Cast Study Analysis: Solution-Focused Approach Solution-focused therapy (SF) is a short-term goal-oriented therapy developed by Steve de Shazar and Insoo Kim Berg in the 1980™s that aimed to develop realistic solutions as quick as possible to promote lasting relief (Team, 2018). This theory emphasizes on the strengths of the client that will improve their potential by looking for resources available to the client versus focusing on their failings. SF theorists believe that change is constant encouraging those in treatment to develop a vision of what they want their future to look like and supporting them by determining their skills and abilities needed to achieve said vision (Team, 2018). Counselors for SF are considered optimistic and view the client as the œcustomer who hires the therapist as an expert, and the problem as the œcomplaint (Murdock, 2017). It is not considered important to know the cause of the complaint because according to them there is no one right way to fix it. They believe in the power of language to create and define reality and so there are no absolute truths (Murdock, 2017). This approach is more focused on the direction that the client is moving toward rather than on past issues that the client may have had by using powerful language that use positive positions.
