Vulnerable_Populations__.docx(1) SOC-220 Vulnerable Populations People in vulnerable positions, such as children, elders, and the medically compromised, face multiple areas of abuse, neglect, and judgment from society. When it comes to those who are vulnerable that are part of a minority group, there is a rise in discrimination than if it were to be happening to a white person, receiving a lack of services for their health that they need (Sullivan, 2016). As mental health becomes a more prominent topic in our society, especially with the younger generations who are more open to therapy and medical assistance, it can still be seen as a deviance to some. By having a stigma around mental health, it creates a new type of vulnerability for traffickers to look for, specifically in the younger generations. There are problems with diagnosis in mental health disorders such as depression, paranoia, and schizophrenia because of the uniqueness of each case in study, none are exactly the same so they can only be treated the same to a certain extent (Sullivan, 2016). The accuracy in diagnosis is not as effective as some hope. However, by widening the view of a solution and adhering by the community mental-health movement, there is a possibility of a more beneficial solution.
