C361 EBP-Task 2 BSNEvidence Based Practice and Applied Nursing Research Task 2 C361 EBP-Task 2 BSNEvidence Based Practice and Applied Nursing Research A1. Â Healthcare problem. Hand Hygiene Compliance in Healthcare System For generations, handwashing with soap and water has been considered a measure of personal hygiene. However, we now know, that neglect of proper hand hygiene in the Healthcare System is associated with infection related to morbidity and mortality. A2. Â Significance of the problem. There is a significant problem in many hospitals through out the United States that are related to hospital acquired infections among patients. There have been many studies completed that have shown hand hygiene plays large role in hospital acquired infections. Problems arise when hospital protocols are not followed and that can lead to infections and prolong hospital stays for patients and illness in staff. The CDC support documentation of evidence by a simple recommendation of washing hands with soap and water or an anti-bacterial foam will prevent the spread of these illnesses. It is estimated that washing hands with soap and water can reduce disease associated deaths by up to 50%, and can reduce the risk of respiratory infections by 16%. According to the CDC, healthcare providers clean their hands less than half the time required for preventable measures. It is estimated that 1 in 25 hospital patients has at least one healthcare associated infection (CDC.gov). A3. Â Current practice related to the problem.
