Introduction Recently, there has been an increased amount of coverage in the media regarding conflict between the public and law enforcement. We have seen riots and protests nationwide petitioning to defund the police. These have started due to some tragic events recently however there has to be more to it, there has to be a root to this conflict. Why is the public revolting against those who are intended to protect and serve? Root of Conflict One reason why we have seen a long history of conflict between the public and law enforcement, or an authority of power, is that some humans are predisposed to control aversion. In 2018, the Journal of Neuroscience conducted a study in which they found that some humans are simply resist to control, or authority, when they perceive that authority as distrusting them or they do not understand the behavior of the authority figure attempting to control them. This lack of trust or understanding of law enforcement is why I believe the public rise up in conflict with the police so often. (Gholipour, 2018) The majority of conflict and protests against law enforcement stem from black communities in the United States.
