DONE C791 - Task 1 - Attempt 1.docx C791 – Advanced Information Management and the Application of Technology Western Governors University C791 – Advanced Information Management and the Application of Technology A1: Advantages and Disadvantages of a System Usability Health Information Systems (HIS) are integrated in many healthcare corporations throughout the years. As with many systems, HIS has both advantages and disadvantages since its implementation. The University of California, Irvine (UCI) Medical Center is a major research and teaching hospital in Orange California. UCI utilizes a HIS called Epic. This particular HIS has advantages of usability in that is user friendly and menus are customized accordingly to every unit/department needs. Menus, selections, navigation tools to carefully curated to be available to the user accordingly to an individual department. Extensive build of the Epic software is initially developed with the hospitals designated staff members to customize the interface of each screen to fit the needs of each department. This allows for more accurate documentation that is individualized for every department rather than having a HIS that is a “one-size-fit-all†program. This is advantageous because the customized menus and screens do not only focus on patient-care areas, but they also address departments such as payroll, human resources, employee health, etc. A disadvantage of HIS Epic usability is due to the high cost of this particular HIS, not many hospitals or health . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . .
