Essentials of Advanced Nursing Practice Field Experience.docx Essentials of Advanced Nursing Practice Field Experience Western Governors University The role of the nurse has grown considerably over the past few decades. Nurses now take an active role in promoting change and keeping nursing at the forefront of the most up to date patient-centered care. They can be a catalyst of change and they have an enormous amount of influence coupled with leadership and authority. A1. This consultation is performed to assess for any needed changes in policy and to identify areas that may need improvement. It will also be used to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the Institute of Psychiatry (IOP) in order to help improve patient outcomes. The consult will look at how nurses are involved in changes and how changes occur within the organization. The hospitals performance and needs will be compared to similar facilities in the surrounding areas and will also be compared to community needs and patient satisfaction scores. Data for the analysis will be gathered through interviews with nursing leaders, hospital website reviews and patient assessment data. After the analysis is completed, a change will be recommended and presented to management and the governing bodies of the IOP. A2. The Institute of Psychiatry (IOP) at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is a 98-bed inpatient, acute stabilization psychiatric facility.
