TASK 1 XAP1 Rev.docx Evidence Based Practice and Applied Nursing Research Task 1 -XAP1 Western Governors University Quantitative Article Multisensory exercise programme improves cognition and functionality in institutionalized older adults: A randomized control trial Background or Introduction This study was performed to see what effects a multisensorial exercise program would have on institutionalized older adults related to their cognitive and functional abilities. Review of the Literature The authors of this article reviewed 15 studies prior to completion of this study. Studies reviewed included age related cognitive and functional decline, quality of life associated with cognitive and functional decline, the positive effects of exercise on maintaining physical and cognitive function Data Analysis Statistical analysis was performed using Students t test, 2-way ANOVA and Tukeys test. Discussion of Methodology This was a double-blind, randomized control trial using 45 volunteers that were randomized into two groups, one group of 24 and the other 21 participants. The first group of 24 participated in a multisensory exercise program and the second group of 21, the control group, did not. The first group participated in 50 minutes of exercise three times per week for 16 weeks while the control group maintained their normal activity level. The same investigator used the same criteria and sequence to evaluate the participants pre and postinterven. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . .
