Nursing informatics is a key specialty of nursing to ensure that patients are receiving the highest quality care possible. In this proposal, I will cover what nursing informatics is, how it can lead to positive patient outcomes, and provide an evidence-based look at the need to add a nurse informaticist to every health care team. Nursing Informatics and the Nurse Informaticist By definition, nursing informatics is described as a combination of not only nursing knowledge and information, but also scientific data and computer-based knowledge (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2017, Chapter 1). While this is just a broad definition, it is also important to remember that it is ever-changing.
