Hiring internally and externally offers various benefits on their own, but it is possible to utilize both hiring approaches within the same company to find the right fit for each role. Internal hiring is more cost effective, decreases training time, and promotes company loyalty (Krell, 2019). Promoting current employees over searching for external talent sends a message to employees that they are valued by the company. The action to promote from within will speak volumes over any company literature, bonding event or positive review, because employees will see it as a return on their invested time and effort with the company. When promoting from within, there is a consistent and accessible fountain of knowledge on a particular candidate, something with an external hire is unlikely to have. Hiring from within will also shorten onboarding time to bring someone up to speed in their new role.
