Adv_research_methods_unit_8_assignment.docx PS:504 Experimental Research Design Department of Psychology, Purdue University Global PS:504 Advanced Research Methods Experimental Research Design Experimental research design is a systematic, scientific, detailed plan that is determined before the experiment begins. Experimental research designs concentrate on the construction of research focused on causal relationships with manipulative variables (Bordens & Abbott, 2017. During this process, the manipulated independent variables can be observed and measured for changes in the respondent variables. Manipulation of independent variables can happen in two ways, qualitatively and quantitatively. Qualitative manipulation is a nonparametric design, and quantitative manipulation is a parametric design (Bordens & Abbott, 2017). The success of experimental research relies on confirming the dependent variables' changes based on the manipulation of the constant, independent variable. The goal is to obtain a specific, notable cause and effect result, which could mean the combination of design techniques for what is known as "mixed model design" (Emerson, 2019 p. 1) Experimental Design Types There are three basic experimental designs, between-subjects design, within-subjects design, and single-subject design (Bordens and Abbott, 2017). Each of these approaches exposes the subjects to varying degrees of the independent variable. The Between-subjects design randomly exposes different people to different levels of the independent. . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
