In society's life, if a person is found guilty of murder, they have violated state level or federal level in several circumstances. Killing a law enforcement officer or elected official would be a case being tried at the federal court level. This also informs the FBI and DEA agents as immediate families of law enforcement and elected officials. Also, aggravating murder is known for a federal crime when an individual kills a person to change outcomes for court cases or sentencing decisions, who would be the judges, key witnesses, or jurors as the victims.
