IT234Unit10Assignment.docx Unit 10 Assignment Purdue University Global IT234 – Database Concepts Unit 10 Assignment There are several alternatives to relational Database models available today. There will be a discussion of five of these options in this paper, which include in-memory databases, Hadoop or NoSQL, virtualized databases, columnar databases, and streaming databases. There are many pros and cons to each choice; however, it is best to thoroughly research all options before making your decision as features and price are important factors along with ultimate usage requirements. Each database model listed has improved upon the design yet has more useful features for specific applications. The first alternative to relational database models is the in-memory database. The in-memory database idea believes that all storage is "flat" or that any piece of data takes as long to access as any other piece of data. By eliminating additional software to deal with disks or tape, a database can process orders of magnitude faster than a traditional relational database, such as analyzing stock market prices on the second. Boundaries between "flat" and disk storage are moving rapidly. By utilizing in-memory databases, a large percentage of business analytics can be handled quicker. Oracle TimesTen is an example of a database vendor that offers in-memory technology as a low-end solution or combined with their traditional relational database giving the users the option to assign the right transaction. . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
