We should live in a world where people are able to live freely and be who they are with out consequence. However, we are always fighting for equal rights as people to be able to live and love equally. The LGBTQ community has fought this fight for years and will continue to fight for years to come. We are starting to see more acceptance from the world, but we still have a long way to go. However, in order to get there, we must first remember the past, so that we correct our wrongs along the way. In this paper I will be analyzing the fight for equal rights for the LGBTQ community through the history and humanities lenses. History Lens In order to go forward as people, we need to see the fight for LGBTQ equality through the history lens for we can have a better understanding of the future. When it comes to equality for the LGBTQ community, we have learned that we have come a long way, but the fight is far from over. Over the years we say how the gay rights movement was constantly struck down. In 1924, Henry Gerber founded the first documented gay rights organization in the US. (History.com Editors, 2017) Although it was a very small group, they started to make some leeway which caused the organization to disband due to police raids in 1925.
