Critical Thinking o After reading the required resources for this week and participating in the discussion, how do you define critical thinking? You will want to carry this definition with you, s ... o keep it brief – perhaps 4 to 6 lines. You will find many definitions online – don't be tempted to just quickly copy one; try to form your own so that it is meaningful to you. Critical thinking to me is define as in-depth realm of though. Having ability to think beyond what we know as “common thinking”. Using the process of thought to conceptualize, interpret, and analyze information. When you think critically you often must follow that thought with a judgment or form of action. • Heart of the Matter o Considering just what you read in Chapter 2.3 "Looking Ahead" why do you think the authors see Chapters 12, 13, and 14 as the "heart of the matter"? o What do you think they mean by that? o What two concepts do the authors say these chapters emphasize? o How do you define these concepts? o Why do you think the authors find these concepts important to critical thinking? The authors consider chapters 12,13,14 as the heart of the matter because it ties everything up that we have read about the though process between humans and human interaction. These chapters outline the forms of argument as it relates to though in an ideological way. The heart meaning of “heart of the matter” may mean that it is the center of the purpose of critical thought. Considering the three chapters compare how members think they will help us to understand the reasoning behind human thought. Two main concepts these chapters cover is how and what shape our thinking, why the though is the way it is. Chapter 12 discusses, the pattern in which shape our thinking and mold our expectations. Chapter 13 explains home prejudices and preconceptions of thought. this chapter also outline how ideological thinking can bring forth unwarranted moral certitude. Chapter 14 explains how the hypothesis and a scientific understanding help grasp how things are articulated. This chapter also talks about the 3 things that create self-doubt within the mind. I think the author find these concepts important because everyone say that critical thinking is a process, but an actual critical thinking outline is not present. Those chapters are important because they are aimed to better shape our understanding of critical thinking, why and how it is done. • Challenges & Insights o What do you see as your greatest challenge for this session in general? For this class in particular? o How do you think you can use the concepts in these first three chapters to help you meet these challenges as well as challenges in your personal life as a member of your family and your community? My biggest challenge will be tapping into a different realm of mindset to think beyond what I know or have learned. This class will require me to think in a way I have thought before. I feel that I am scared to think critically because I am afraid of my thought process within doing do. I can use these concepts to help my understanding of critical thinking wisdom and intellectuality. Understanding that your thought process doses do not justify who you are good or bad. The first 3 chapters talk about skill and does having skill make you smart or a bad or good person. Reading has helped me shaped my known thoughts. bad people are not always good and smart people are not always good.
