In this paper, I am going to compare the healthcare system in the United States and Japan. In Japan, the healthcare system is funded by taxes and individual contributions. All citizens are required to be enrolled in some type of insurance plan. If a citizen in Japan has a job, they will be enrolled in a plan at the job. If not employed, residents are required to register in the residence-based insurance plans provided for people under seventy-four years old. If someone is over seventy-five, they are automatically covered for the Elderly plans.
