Voting Rights Act The Voting Rights Act of 1965 Is arguably one of the most important civil rights Acts in United States History. In the wake of the civil rights movement some states still had laws that specifically targeted the black community and made it hard if not impossible for them to register and vote. One example of this was some states required a literacy test just to register to vote. Today in America we again find states attempting to pass laws that although not outrightly admitted, will create more obstacles for minorities to vote.
