Older people only see social media as a tool used to stay up to date with trends and news. I see social media as a tool that is used mainly by teens and young adults to set life goals and pinpoint where they want to be in life and what they want to achieve. You may hear goal and think teens setting goals is a good thing, but the question is what goals are they setting? There have been many cases where an individual has set a life goal and did not make it which lead to them becoming depressed. People especially teens compare themselves to other people on social media. During the adolescent and young developmental stage is when your moral and cognitive developments come into play and with the influence of social media it could have a negative and positive affect.my thoughts for research turned to what I do and do not know. I hear people around me discuss this topic and the effects of it, so I want to see how what I hear anecdotally transfers to what is happening.
