Speech_Week_2_Assignment_1.docx Week 2 Assignment 1: Nonverbal Communication Analysis Chamberlain University College of Nursing SPCH277N: Interpersonal Communication 1.What nonverbal messages are being sent in this image? In the image below, there are a couple nonverbal messages being sent. McLean (2018) states, “body movements complement, repeat, regulate, or replace your verbal messages†(p. 205). One example is the guy on the left raising his arm and holding his palm out while strictly speaking to a woman at a meeting. This arm raising establishes a regulation of the conversation which puts the man at a higher position in the conversation. 2.What type of nonverbal communication codes are being used to deliver the message(s)? Some nonverbal communication codes that are being displayed in the image below are the womans eye contact with the man standing up, the seriousness displayed by facial expressions, and the womans hand movements. These are all physical characteristics and body movement forms of nonverbal communication. 3.What effect does each message have on the other people in the image? The message given by the man raising his arm seems like important information, as the speaker is standing up while talking and using his arm to portray a serious matter. The womans straight eye contact sends a message to the speaker that she is an actively listener and good at paying attention. 4.What nonverbal communication skills and strategies could be used to communicate effectively in this situ. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . .
