She is recently unemployed and is afraid of becoming homeless. CT was chosen because it is a structured, time-limited method that has an emphasis on the present. It consists of directive techniques to help clients identify and adjust the negative thoughts and inaccurate beliefs that add to the client's unhappiness (Grand Canyon University, 2014, para. 1). Cognitive Therapy Cognitive Therapy (CT) is based around a reality-testing practice in which clients come to realize how they tend to misinterpret situations and employ ways of thinking that cause their discontent. CT involves a cooperative aggressive dialogue in which open-ended questions are used to help clients draw new and better conclusions about their misconceptions and maladaptive thought processes (Grand Canyon University, 2014, para. 2). Goals and Strategies CT is a short-term form of psychotherapy based on the concept that what an individual believes about circumstances affects how they feel psychologically.
