Controlling this chronic disease become a key priority because it is a growing problem in America. It causes massive disturbing impact on the population, resulting in unnecessary morbidities and mortalities. Defines a Patient Health Issue I choose to work in the Neurology unit because both of my grandparents had Stroke. Unfortunately, “Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States and a major cause of disability†(Gupta, 2015, p.54). To my surprise, most of the strokes admissions in my unit are caused by uncontrolled hypertension, as the case of the patient MJ. MR MJ was admitted with stroke because he was incompliant with taking his blood pressure medication. Personal or Professional Significance of Hypertension within the Scope of Nursing Practice Hypertension is a freighting illness to regulate because many people are unaware of hypertension until suffering from severe damaging effects.
