After Reading Chapter 3, write a brief paragraph outlining the function of each of the following IPv4 header fields. â€œa. The type of service field is the field that allows routers to follow a specified path type. It has two components: Precedence and Type of Service. The precedence prioritized the traffic while the type of service specifies the path the traffic follows. b. Time to live is the remaining distance the packet can travel. Its the amount of hops a packet can take on its way to the destination. c. The Protocol field indicates what is coming next, such as number 6 â€œtransmission control protocol (TCP)â€. d. The Header Checksum field provides error detection on the contents of the IP header only. e. The option field exist primarlily to provide additional IP routing controls. Such as â€œStream ID, or Time Stampâ€. (Tittel, J.L.C.L.C. E. 2012, paraphrased) 2. Review both Chapter 3 and RFC 2460.
