6_1_Progress_Check.docx SCS 200 6-1 Progress Check I.Provide a brief overview of the social scientific background of your issue and research question. How is the issue situated within the social ... sciences? The issue in the social sciences that I have selected to investigate are the influences on work-life balance. This is significant because an unhealthy work-life balance can have negative repercussions on the individual. Unfortunately, this is a very common problem. My research question is What do people who suffer from a poor work-life balance have in common? My issue can be related to the social sciences by applying them towards the social science principles. The social science principles that apply to my selected issue are social norms and social roles. Social norms are defined as the attitudes and behaviors that are considered regular and acceptable, and which are expected of an individual by society (MindEdge 2020). Social roles are defined as a set of expectations, duties, responsibilities, attitudes and behaviors that a person is expected to fulfill in their society (MindEdge Inc., 2020). As mentioned before, social norms are attitudes and behaviors that are expected of an individual by society. Due to the fact that these attitudes and behaviors are expected of an individual, this person may feel pressured to do something they may not necessarily want to do even if it impacts their work-life balance. For example, a working mother may be asked to work later by her boss. She may feel press. . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . .. .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
