According to Serrat in Knowledge Solutions, “Emotional intelligence describes the ability to identify, assess, and manage the emotions of ones self, of others, and of groups.†(Serrat, 2017, p.331). There are 5 domains or power skills, 3 that cover personal and 2 that cover social areas. Personal areas: Self-awareness includes emotional awareness- being able to recognize your own emotions and effects of them, self-assessment- knowing your limits and strengths, and self-confidence- being sure of your own capabilities and worth. Self-regulation includes self-control- controlling impulses and emotions, trustworthy- being honest and maintaining integrity, conscientiousness- taking responsibility for your performance, adapting- being flexible and accepting change, innovative- open to new ideas and information. Self-motivation includes drive for achievement- looking to improve and reach a standard of excellence, commitment- connecting your goals with the groups goals, initiative- being ready to act on opportunities, optimism- being persistent in reaching goal regardless of obstacles.
