When implementing a new HIS, four components should be considered: usability, interoperability, scalability, and compatibility. Usability refers to the quality of a users experience when interacting with the HIS. It is directly responsible for the effectiveness, efficiency and overall satisfaction of the user. If the HIS is user-friendly, simple, and easy to use, then implementation and subsequent compliance by the staff will most likely be successful and greatly advantageous. Heath care providers want a system that is easy to navigate and requires minimal effort so it doesnt take precious time away from patient care, but improves it.
