WK7Assgn Project Progress.doc SOCW 6051 Project Progress Master of Social Work, Walden University SOCW 6051: Diversity, Human Rights, and Social Justice Identify the cultural event you plan to ex... perience Due to the current pandemic and political environment here in Washington, D.C., I will be unable to attend a cultural event physically within my community. As an alternative, I will view the documentary, LA 1992. This film directed by Daniel Linday and T.J. Martin is a collection of archived footage from the 1992 Los Angeles riots that were a subsequent response to the beating of Rodney King and the acquittal of the officers involved. I will view this documentary from the comfort of my home. While I looked forward to being able to attend an in-person event, due to the climate in the capital region, it is unsafe to do so. How does this activity/event differ from your own diverse experience? This activity differs from my own diverse experience in that I was raised in a more suburban area with minimal polic contact or activity in my neighborhood, which is a drastic difference from urban neighorhoods in the 90s which had a very heavy police presence, to include racial profiling tactics to gain arrests. What challenges do you forsee with completing this project? I do not forsee any major challenges in completing this project. My concern is completing the project with the requirements established for an in-person or virtual event.
