As I react to the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) statement and the United Nations address on Global LGBT rights, the words of the Human Rights Campaign President, Alphonso David, echo in my mind. He indicated in Human Rights Campaign (2020) that "Together, and with your help, we are working toward a country that can someday deliver on its fundamental promise of equality for allâ€ (para. 2). It means that he acknowledges that the world treats some populations differently than others. One of these populations is the LGBTQ community. In this reaction, I will describe my thoughts on the role of social workers in equal rights and access to LGBTQ populations. I will elaborate on the importance to acknowledge and address the sexual orientation and gender diversity of marginalized populations across the world, the role of social workers on an international level concerning the rights of the LGBTQ community. Finally, I will identify specific actions and skills I would employ as an advocate.
