While obtaining my RN, we were taught the basics and what the expectation of the education was. While obtaining you APN it is the same concept. APN education is designed to teach us various skills so that we come out with the skills need to be leaders and be successful NPs. In this paper, I will discuss the APN scope, NONPF core competencies, and leadership skills. APN Scope of Practice APNs have a scope of practice, like RNs do. It is important to understand what your scope of practice is, where you live. The American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) provides a scope of practice for NPs and states â€œNPs practice autonomously and in coordination with healthcare professionals and other individuals.â€ (n.d). As NPs, we can work in many areas and specialties to diagnose, manage, and treat patients. NPs must obtain their MSN or DNP and pass the national board certification. NP programs have to follow the criteria set by the certification board. This includes the number of clinical hours needed to complete the program. The reason why they follow these requirements is to ensure clinical competency and specialized knowledge (AANP, n.d.).
