C304 Task 2 Apr 2020.docx C304 Task 2 Ethical Principle Application (your name here) Western Governors University 43923 A1 “Nursing ethics is a system of principles concerning the actions of the nurse in his or her relationships with patients, patients family members, other health care providers, policymakers, and society as a whole.†(Cherry & Jacob, 2017) As a nurse, every decision I make is guided by these principles. I am always cognizant of the trust placed in me by my patients, their families, my peers, and by society as a whole. Given this, while I certainly can empathize with Mr. Newcombs request and wish to see his mistress as his life comes to a conclusion, ethically I would be unable to assist him in doing so by lying to his wife. In explaining this to Mr. Newcomb, I would take great care to express my sympathy to his situation and willingness to support his autonomy to make such a decision even though I am declining to assist him. I would also reiterate that I am still present for him and will continue to offer him the best possible care, entirely free of my personal beliefs in regards to his private life.
