After traveling nonstop across the Atlantic Ocean from New York City to Paris in 1927, Charles Lindbergh and his family attracted a lot of attention. Charles Lindbergh became an American hero and became wealthy as a result of this extraordinary occurrence. People all over the world followed the Lindberghs, and they became known as the "American family ." Charles, Jr., the twenty-month-old son of Charles and Ann Lindbergh, was kidnapped from their home near Hopewell, New Jersey on March 1st, 1932. When all of the residents were at home, Charles, Jr. was abducted through an upstairs window using a ladder. The New Jersey State Police were called and arrived on the scene to conduct an investigation. Proof from the crime scene, such as a ransom letter and fingerprints on the envelope, was retrieved as part of the investigation.
